Works With
The Yale Assure Lock Wi-Fi Lever is a solid choice for smart home users wanting keypad access and ecosystem integration but who can tolerate occasional connectivity quirks and moderate setup effort.
The Yale Assure Lock Smart Lock Wi-Fi Lever with Touchscreen Keypad offers a solid balance of convenience and security for those wanting a keyless entry solution with familiar lever handle design. It integrates well with major smart home ecosystems like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit, allowing voice control and remote access without needing an additional hub. The touchscreen keypad is responsive and supports multiple user codes, which is handy for families or rental properties. Its satin nickel finish is durable and suits modern door styles. However, it does have some drawbacks. The lock’s battery life typically lasts around 6-9 months depending on usage, which is average but requires regular monitoring to avoid lockouts. Also, while the Wi-Fi connection is built-in, some users report occasional connectivity drops compared to locks using dedicated hubs or Z-Wave connections. The lock is best suited for homeowners comfortable with moderate DIY installation and those who want seamless integration with their existing smart home setup. It’s less ideal for users who want a completely hands-off, ultra-reliable lock without occasional troubleshooting or those with very thick or non-standard doors where the lever might not fit well. Overall, it’s a good choice for tech-savvy users who value ecosystem compatibility and a sleek design but are okay with some minor maintenance and setup effort.

Ecosystem
Upgrade your door with the Assure Lever, a smart keypad lever lock for key-free entry. The lever has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth so it allows you to lock/unlock, share access and see who comes and goes all using your app, from anywhere! For ultimate convenience, your Assure Lever will unlock automatically as you approach the door and it will relock once the door is closed! Plus, you can lock, unlock or check current status with voice assistants including Amazon Alexa, Hey Google or Siri. The lock features a backlit keypad so even when you don't have your phone, you can unlock your door without the hassle of keys. It's super easy to use and installs in minutes with just a screwdriver on standard doors (1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick). Compatible with doors with no deadbolt (i.e. side entry, garage entry, basement, home office, etc.)
Connectivity
Full feature set requires Wi-Fi connection; no support for Zigbee or Z-Wave protocols
Compared to the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock, the Yale Assure Lock offers direct touchscreen keypad access, whereas August relies heavily on app and proximity unlocking without a keypad. August’s installation is generally easier since it retrofits over existing deadbolts, but it lacks a lever handle option. The Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Lock is a closer competitor, offering similar Wi-Fi integration and keypad functionality, but Schlage's lock tends to have a sturdier build and longer battery life (up to a year). However, Schlage’s lock is bulkier and more expensive. Yale strikes a middle ground with a sleeker lever design and solid ecosystem support but can have more connectivity hiccups than Schlage’s more robust hardware.
Installation difficulty rates about a 3 out of 5. It typically takes 30-45 minutes for someone moderately handy. You’ll need a Phillips screwdriver and possibly a drill if your door isn’t prepped. The lock fits standard door preparations but can be tricky on thicker or non-standard doors. Clear instructions are included, but some users find aligning the lever and touchscreen a bit fiddly. Professional installation is optional but recommended if you’re not comfortable with door hardware.
In daily use, the Yale Assure Lock is generally reliable with quick response times around 1-2 seconds for keypad or app commands. The app is functional but not as polished as some competitors, with occasional connectivity drops reported. Battery life is average, requiring AA batteries replaced every 6-9 months depending on usage. Users occasionally report touchscreen lag or failure to register codes in cold weather. Overall, it performs well but isn’t flawless.
