The Lutron Claro Smart Switch is a dependable, well-integrated on/off switch best suited for Caséta users with neutral wiring who want stable smart control without dimming features.
The Lutron Claro Smart Switch for Caséta is a solid choice if you want reliable on/off control for lights or fans and already use the Caséta ecosystem. It integrates smoothly with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit, making voice control straightforward. The switch supports up to 5 amps and requires a neutral wire, which is common but not universal in older homes. One of its strengths is the well-established Lutron Caséta hub system, known for stable wireless communication and minimal latency. The Claro design is sleek and fits standard wall plates without fuss. However, it lacks dimming functionality, so if you want to adjust brightness, you'll need a different model. Also, the $65 price point is higher than some basic smart switches, which might deter budget-conscious buyers. Installation can be tricky for those unfamiliar with electrical wiring, especially since a neutral wire is mandatory. This product is perfect for users already invested in Lutron Caséta or those prioritizing reliability and ecosystem compatibility over advanced features. It's less ideal for renters or those without neutral wires, or anyone wanting multi-function switches with dimming or scene control. Overall, it’s a dependable smart switch for straightforward on/off needs within the Caséta system but not the best pick if you want more versatility or lower cost.

Ecosystem
Introducing the Claro smart switch for Caseta smart lighting. Lutron's most popular switch design is now smart and works with your existing Caseta products. Match existing Claro switches in your home with the same elegant, recognized paddle style, updated to match existing Caseta products with an LED indicator light. Welcome Home to Peace of Mind - always come back to a well-lit home with the Claro smart switch. Enable the Smart away feature to randomly turn lights on and off, to make it look like you're home, even if you're away (smart hub required). Use the smart hub to connect your Caseta Claro smart switch to more leading smart home devices - including Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Ring, and Sonos - than any other smart lighting control brand. Not only does the smart hub unlock smart control and device integration - but it also doesn't use Wi-Fi to control your lights. Stay connected even when your Wi-Fi goes down and stop slowing your internet speed with more devices. Create a new 3-way or replace an existing one with the Claro smart switch. Pair a Pico remote and bracket to your switch and mount the Pico/bracket on almost any surface - no cutting holes or pulling wire required (Pico and bracket sold separately). Match the Claro smart switch's paddle-style aesthetic with the Pico paddle remote (PJ2-P2B-GWH). Includes (1) Claro smart switch; coordinating wallplate and other accessories sold separately.
Connectivity
Requires Hub
Lutron Caséta Smart Bridge
Full smart features and integrations require the Lutron Caséta Smart Bridge hub; no native Matter or Zigbee/Z-Wave support.
Compared to the TP-Link Kasa HS200, the Lutron Claro requires a neutral wire, whereas the Kasa does not, which can simplify installation in older homes. However, Lutron offers tighter integration with Apple HomeKit, which the Kasa lacks. The Leviton Decora Smart switch is closer in price and also supports HomeKit, but it often receives mixed reviews on app reliability compared to Lutron's more polished experience. Unlike the Leviton, the Claro is limited to on/off control without dimming, so if you want more lighting control flexibility, Leviton or Lutron's Caséta dimmer models might be better. Overall, Claro excels in ecosystem stability but trades off some feature versatility and installation flexibility.
Installation difficulty rates around 3 out of 5 for someone moderately comfortable with electrical work. It typically takes 20-30 minutes per switch. A neutral wire is required, so homes without one will need additional work or a different product. Basic tools like a screwdriver and voltage tester are needed. The instructions are clear, but if you’re not confident with wiring, professional installation is recommended to avoid safety risks.
Users report reliable daily performance with near-instant response times when toggling lights or fans. The Lutron app is generally praised for its intuitive interface and stable connectivity, with minimal dropouts. Battery life isn’t applicable since it’s wired. Some users note occasional delays when controlling multiple switches simultaneously via voice assistants, but these are rare. Firmware updates are infrequent but straightforward through the app.

Homeowners looking to upgrade their lighting with smart technology.
Consider purchasing the smart hub for full functionality and integration.
Buy this switch if your home has a neutral wire and you already use or plan to use the Lutron Caséta hub. Pair it with other Caséta devices for best ecosystem performance. Avoid if you need dimming or don’t have neutral wiring. Don’t skip professional installation if you’re unsure about electrical work. Compare prices with Leviton Decora and TP-Link Kasa if budget or installation flexibility is a concern.
