Works With
The Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Lighting Switch is a solid choice for modern homes with neutral wiring seeking reliable, multi-ecosystem smart lighting control but isn’t ideal for high-load or older wiring setups.
The Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Lighting Switch is a versatile and reliable option for controlling lights and fans, supporting all bulb types up to 6A. It excels in compatibility, working seamlessly with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit, which makes it a solid choice if you want voice control across multiple ecosystems. The switch itself is well-built, with a tactile feel and responsive controls. One of its standout features is the ability to integrate with the Lutron Smart Bridge, enabling remote access and scheduling. However, it does have some limitations. The 6A rating means it’s not suitable for high-wattage fixtures or multiple bulbs on one switch, which can be a dealbreaker for larger rooms or multi-light setups. Also, it requires a neutral wire for installation, so older homes without neutral wiring may not be compatible without additional work. The app is generally reliable but can feel a bit clunky compared to competitors like the TP-Link Kasa app. Overall, this switch is perfect for users who want a stable, well-supported smart switch with broad ecosystem compatibility and don’t need to control very high loads. Those with older homes lacking neutral wires or requiring control of heavy-duty lighting setups might want to look elsewhere.

Ecosystem
Experience the ultimate convenience in lighting control with Lutron’s family of Caseta Wireless dimmers, switches, and smart phone control. The Caseta Wireless In-Wall Switch provides switching of multiple load types and, when paired with Pico remote controls, allows remote control from anywhere in the space. Use the Pico remote control either in your hand, on a tabletop pedestal or by mounting the remote directly to the wall (remote control and accessories sold separately). You can even use the Pico remote to control the lights from your car as you arrive home. This switch works with up to 720-Watt of incandescent, halogen, ELV and MLV, 6 Amp of dimmable LED/CFL and 3.6 Amp of general purpose fans. Neutral wire required. Coordinating wall plate sold separately.
Connectivity
Requires Hub
Lutron Smart Bridge
Full features require Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge; no native Zigbee, Z-Wave, or Matter support
Compared to the TP-Link Kasa HS200, the Lutron Caseta offers better ecosystem integration, especially with Apple HomeKit, which Kasa lacks. However, Kasa supports higher loads (up to 15A) and doesn’t require a neutral wire, making it easier to install in older homes. The Leviton Decora Smart switch is another competitor that supports a wider range of load types and has a more polished app experience but doesn’t integrate as smoothly with Apple HomeKit as Caseta does. The main trade-off with Caseta is its 6A limit and neutral wire requirement versus competitors that offer easier installation or higher load capacity but less seamless smart home integration.
Installation difficulty is around 3 out of 5. It typically takes 20-30 minutes if you have a neutral wire present. You’ll need basic tools like a screwdriver and voltage tester. The main challenge is confirming the presence of a neutral wire, which is mandatory for this switch. If your wiring doesn’t include a neutral, installation becomes complicated and may require an electrician. Most users can handle installation themselves if they’re comfortable with electrical work; otherwise, professional installation is recommended.
In daily use, the Caseta switch is reliable with minimal lag, usually responding within a second to voice or app commands. The Lutron app is functional but not as intuitive as some competitors, occasionally requiring a refresh to update status. Battery life isn’t applicable since it’s wired. Users report very few connectivity issues when paired with the Lutron Smart Bridge, but direct Bluetooth control without the bridge is limited. Overall, it offers a stable experience with occasional minor app quirks.

Homeowners looking to upgrade their lighting system with smart controls.
Consider purchasing the smart bridge for full compatibility and features.
Before buying, verify your switch box has a neutral wire and that your lighting load doesn’t exceed 6A. Consider purchasing the Lutron Smart Bridge for full remote and automation features. Avoid buying if you need to control multiple high-wattage bulbs on one switch or want advanced features like motion sensing built-in. Pairing with compatible dimmable bulbs can improve performance. Watch for sales, as the price is higher than some competitors.
